Trouble letting go

Is it possible to be happy and sad at the same time? I find myself in such a situation. My daughter Rebecca is moving away to China for several years. On one hand I'm so happy that she's going to experience something not many young people will ever get the chance to do. On the other hand I'm saddened that I wont be able to just pick up a phone and call her any tine I feel the need. And the worst part is that I can't tell her how I really feel. I have so many emotions slamming me in all different directions that sometimes I feel like Sybil. When I start thinking about things like all the diseases there, I want to call her up and talk her out of going. Then in a split second I'll think what an opportunity of a life time. I'm a yoyo. She's already nervous enough without me adding to the mix. This is a big decision for her and I want to be as supportive as possible.

A parents biggest fear is that your children won't be ready to enter the world on their own. Have you done enough to prepare them for any possible hardships without scaring the crap out of them? The hardest part for me is not instilling my own fears of the world onto my children. Just because I had a tough life doesn't mean that will be the same fate for them. Would I have lived my life any different if someone warned me of any possible danger? I think I would have lived my life in constant fear, and that's not something I would wish upon my children. I love my darlings, and I only want them to be the happiest people they can possibly be. I feel I have done my job pretty well.

Why are men so pig-headed?

Why does it take a car accident to prove what I’ve been telling him for over 10 years?

My little brother suffers from Super Man syndrome. That’s where he actually thinks that nothing bad can happen to him physically. i.e.. sickness.

He thought it was no big deal that he was snoring. You know, most people think that guys=snoring. So deal, right? WONG!

Notice: Snoring is NOT normal. . . for anyone! Of course some snoring is worse than others. If you’ve ever had to sleep on the couch because your partner’s snoring could wake the dead, there could be a real medical problem. Sleep Apnea can be a very serious problem for some people.

Anyway. . . My brother fell asleep on the freeway and rear-ended another car. Thank God he was stuck in a traffic jam at the time and was driving at a slower speed, or I would hate to think how that would have turned out.

This event inspired him to seek help for this problem. He’s the dumbest, smart person I know. -shakes head-

I did it. I couldn't help myself. . .

Any mother knows the torture of taking kids, small kids, to a grocery store. You know the endless, "Can I have this?" Well, boys seem to be a bit louder than girls when it comes to this. I know my Kitten can totally relate. Anyway. . .

So, when my son grabs a box of sugar cereal with a light saber spoon inside, and speaks those very familiar words, "I want this." Oh, I forgot, Terry doesn't ask, he tells me what he wants, which gives me leeway of getting creative with the word NO.

The long and short of it is, I said, yes. I can't resist anything Star Wars. Now my son knows my weakness, and shares my passion.

Note to self. . .

Had the scare of my life this weekend. Will I recover from just the image, that I can't get out of my head? There is nothing like walking into the bathroom and seeing your son floating face down in a tub full of running water, and not getting a response when I called out his name twice.

You always ask yourself if you would be able to deal with an emergency such as this. It's one thing when it's a stranger, but when it's your kid? I always feared that I would panic and not do what I was trained to do. After this weekend, I will never doubt myself again.

I'm trying to remember what went through my head at that very moment.

With the strength you hear about with adrenaline rushes, I lifted him from the tub to get him on the floor and assess what I would need to do. As soon as I basically threw him to the floor, he started sputtering in shock asking why I did that.

It took 4 hours for the shaking from the adrenaline to stop, before I was able to talk to him. Lets just say he will never play dead in a tub or pool as long as he lives.

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! I did. I would even go as far as to say, it was the best I ever had.

This wonderful day started out early in the morning. I'm still smiling and chuckling about Terry's excitement. My son, as many 7 year olds, made gifts at school to present to me on this day. Three in total, spread out around the house while I was instructed to search for each one. I tried to make a good show in searching. He couldn't stand my delay in finding these hidden treasures and proceeded to give me "hints" on where they were hidden. -laughs-

The funny happenings don't stop there, however. After all the kisses and hugs in thanks, he declares his hunger for breakfast and my fixing it for him. I thought to play a joke on him and pout saying, "You're suppose to bring me breakfast in bed on mother's day." He pauses for like 5 seconds thinking then suddenly tells me very fervently to get back in bed. We had a good laugh over it, and I made him some food.

This was all from 6am - noon.

Then I get a call from Becca saying she was coming over to take me out for mother's day. No, she didn't ask. She’s telling me how it's going to be. I can live with that.

First was a visit to Red Lobster of lunch. Then a 3 hour visit to the mall, and lots of shopping. Sears: 2 shirts and a pair of sandals. Charlotte Russe: favorite perfume - Shine. Claire's: Ears re-pierced. And lots of window shopping.

It was a great day.

Still goofin’ with this animation thing. I made this movie short today. It’s from one of my favorite episodes of the Twilight Zone. I took stills from this episode and put them together in different sequences, and using some effects, to make a funny story.

The file size is 20.5 kb’s too large to used as an icon. But, I thought I would show you anyway.

You have entered....The Twilight Zone

A second grade teacher was telling her class about the story of chicken little. She gets to the part where the chicken runs to the farmer yelling, “The sky is falling, the sky is falling.” She then turns to her class and asks, “And what do you think the farmer said to chicken little?” A little girl raised her hand waving frantically to her teacher. “I know I know. I know what he said.”

Do you know what the farmer said? )

You are Form 3, Unicorn: The Innocent.

"And The Unicorn knew she wasn't meant to
go into the Dark Wood. Disregarding the advice
given to her by the spirits, Unicorn went
inside and bled silver blood.. For her
misdeed, the world knew evil."

Some examples of the Unicorn Form are Eve
(Christian) and Pandora (Greek).
The Unicorn is associated with the concept of
innocence, the number 3, and the element of
water. Her sign is the twilight sun.

As a member of Form 3, you are a curious
individual. You are drawn to new things and
become fascinated with ideas you've never come
in contact with before. Some people may say
you are too nosey, but it's only because you
like getting to the bottom of things and
solving them. Unicorns are the best friends to
have because they are inquisitive.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoon.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker.

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Marilyn Monroe.

Creepy huh? One history lesson people don't mind reading.

It's that wonderful time of the year again. Flu Shot season! Whohoo!

Oh hell yeah I volunteered to run the shot clinic. Anything to get me away from my desk, phones, charts, or what have you.

This Wednesday I'll be setting up my booth for my Thursday and Friday clinic. Making myself a little waiting room, and making it look all spiffy. My schedule as it is now is booked. They have made up a 5 minute schedule which I told them to double book, so that gives me 2 patients every 5 minutes. That should keep me fairly busy. I even told them they could triple book me, I don’t care! Ah, but they said no. -pouts-

I even tried to reason with them, explaining that it only takes me 30 seconds to give a shot, and then 30 seconds to sign the shot waiver. So with 3 people every 5 minutes that will give me 2 whole minutes of free time. But, the boss still said, No. Ah well. I tried.

Okay, so I'm off to get ready for work.

A stolen quiz. What's new?
